Elephant Seals

SoCal → NorCal
Long roadtrip breather pt.4 – the last part

This was a race against time and light. The last destination on our adventure was to see the elephant seals in San Simeon. We weren’t really sure where to find them, so we searched Google maps and saw a location point for Elephant Seal Vista Point. I thought it seemed obvious that the seals were located there, but nope. It was a beautiful landscape overlooking the beach but there were no seals in sight. We asked around and they directed us to Point Piedras Blancas.

Finally, we arrived just before it got totally dark, around 8:20pm. Thankfully, we were still able to catch them…sleeping. Some of them were awake so we could hear them bantering. They are huge! They are also wild creatures and can bite.

I adjusted the settings on my camera to be able to snap these photos lol

By the end of the day we were exhausted and still had the drive going up to the Bay Area. Overall this was a good trip because it was all a new experience to us. Hopefully next time we will be able to see other places in central California.
